Welcome Back
Dear King School Parent/Guardian,
I want to welcome you and your child to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.K-8 Elementary School. Our mission at King School is to empower your child to reach their highest potential and to inspire them to strive for excellence!
At King, we have established a positive and inclusive culture where students work together to accomplish their goals by using the TRIBES curriculum. Students, staff, and parents are expected to show mutual respect, attentive listening, no-put downs, and appreciation for each other daily at our school in the classroom and on the playground. All classroom rules and procedures generally fall under one of our agreements.
King school is fortunate to be an “Arts Infused School”. Your child will receive instruction from our music and art teachers. Many of our teachers integrate the arts into the core curriculum. We believe that using all the learning modalities, which includes music, art, and drama that will increase students’ ability in Reading and Math.
At King School, we provide many opportunities and resources for our students. The STEP UP tutoring program is available to students and runs daily after school until 6:00 p.m. We continue to provide daily classes through our King Family Center. Please feel free anytime to stop into the King Family Center and pick up a calendar. We host a weekly Parent Coffee hour on Wednesdays 8:00a.m.-9:00 a.m.
Of course, I do have a few reminders. Don’t forget we are a uniform school. Students should be in uniform K-8. Additionally, our school hours have changed. Kindergarten- 3rd Grade hours are 7:40 am -1:40 pm., 4th-6th grades are 7:40 am -1:35 pm and 7th and 8th hours are 7:40 am -1:30 pm. Daily attendance is critical. If your child has to be out of school due to illness or an emergency, please make sure to call our school office number 933-7230 Ext: 5420 or 5421.
Finally, I am looking forward to creating a partnership with you and your child to help them be a successful student. Please think about volunteering in the classroom or becoming a room parent this year. Let your teacher or I know you are interested. Feel free to stop by and see me anytime.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Connie M. Fabian,
Principal
