Local author, musician and artist Mr. Ernest (Ernie) Johnson (accompanied by Jaime Garcia) performed at Martin Luther King, Jr. School on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 for our 5th through 8th grade students.  Mr. Johnson is the author of a book entitled "Black Country."  Students learned about his childhood experiences from his book entitled, “Black Country,” which he wrote about his experiences growing up in the segregated south of the United States.  Through poems, storytelling, and artwork students learned about what life was like to grow up in the South during the thirties and forties.  His spirituals, blues, gospel style, and modern rhythms made stories come to life.  Mr. Johnson wants to share his unique experience to help others realize the common experiences we all have in life.  He hopes to inspire others to share their own unique experiences about their life and family history.  We want to thank Mr. Johnson for sharing with us his experiences and his many talents.
